PTE (Pearson Tests of English)

There are two tests in PTE

  • PTE Academic
  • PTE General

PTE Academic: It is the world's leading computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. Typically, PTE Academic results are available within five business days. PTE Academic is accepted by thousands of universities worldwide. PTE Academic is also accepted for visa purposes by the Australian government.

PTE General: PTE General is accepted around the world by universities, ministries of education and employers as proof of English language proficiency. The below is a list of countries where PTE General is accepted by government bodies. Please note that PTE General is not accepted for visa applications.

PTE Academic

About the PTE Academic Test-

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a computer-based English language proficiency test delivered internationally. This test has four sections- Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. In a single three-hour test session PTE Academic assesses listening, reading, speaking and writing all via computer, in a secure test centre. It is approved by the Australian Government for visa applications and accepted by thousands of institutions in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Ireland

PTE Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The minimum age required for applicant is 16 years
  2. Applicants who are below 18 years of age will have to produce evidence of parental consent to take the English proficiency test.

PTE  Academic Test Pattern:

PART 1: SPEAKING & WRITING (77 – 93 minutes)

  • Personal Introduction
  • Read aloud
  • Repeat sentence
  • Describe image
  • Re-tell lecture
  • Answer short question
  • Summarize written text
  • Essay (20mins)

PART 2: READING (32 – 41 minutes)

  • Multiple-choice, choose single answer
  • Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers
  • Re-order paragraphs
  • Reading: Fill in the blanks
  • Reading and writing: Fill in the blanks
  • A ten minute break is optional

PART 3: LISTENING (45 – 57 minutes)

  • Summarize spoken text
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Fill the blanks
  • Highlight the correct summary
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Select missing word
  • Highlight incorrect words
  • Write from dictation

PTE Academic Score Report:

The PTE Academic Score Report includes your overall score, communicative skills scores and enabling skills scores.

The overall score reflects your overall English language ability. The score is based on performance on all items in the test. The range for the overall score is 10-90 points.

Communicative Skills: Scores for communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are based on all test items that assess these skills, either as a single skill or together with other skills.  The range for each communicative skill score is 10-90 points.

Enabling Skills: Scores for enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse) are based on all test items assessing one or more of these skills.  The range for each enabling skill score is 10-90 points.
